Indiana: Bring Larry Bird Home!

Yeah, I know, he only attended IU for a couple of weeks (thanks Benson). But it's time to right this ship. Look, Xavier's Miller has recently started a nice tradition of beating Purdue and Bennett's throttling of Notre Dame was impressive. But the time for screwing around at Indiana (note: Davis and Sampson) has come and gone. We've got the cash (thanks Cuban and Cougar!!), it's time to make it happen. And Larry-legend will make it happen.

It's been suggested that Larry would be able to recruit Indiana. You think? It's also been suggested that Larry might not be able to recruit outside of Indiana? Are you kidding me? You're going to tell me that Devin Ebanks wouldn't know exactly who Larry Bird is?? That's crazy-talk, he'd probably drop a deuce in his shorts at the chance to play for Larry Bird.

Now, I'm not entirely enthralled with NBA coaches with no Collegiate experience, Wittman and Skiles need not apply. But we're talking about Larry Bird. The man knows how to play the game, anyone who thinks he couldn't X & O / motivate a team in D-1 College Hoops is probably flat-out wrong.

C'mon home Larry; it's time for the final stage of your amazing legacy.

Indiana: Bring Larry Bird Home!

What about Randy Whitman?

He's *big* time in the NBA! Knows how to coach winning basketball, an IU alum AND......he's an IU alum!

Randy Wittman should not even be anywhere close to the radar. Look at his career results as a head coach:

http://www.nba.com/coachfile/randy_wittman/

92-183? Yikes! Combine that with the fact that he has zero recruiting experience and that's just high-stakes gambling, and you're not even picking a solid horse. He took a .500 Casey-lead Timberwolves, playoff bound team last year and drove them straight into the ground, I watched it.

Indiana needs no part of this. Read the part of my blog where I said Screwing-around time is over. It's over. Forget this nonsense, bring in the biggest no-brainer on the face of planet Earth: Larry Bird.

While I understand the hometown angle you're fishing for here I don't really know if Larry is the end all be all answer for your alma matter.  Can you name the last NBA legend who took on either a pro or college D-1 team and coached them to greatness?

I don't know if I can recall that or not.

At least with Whitman you can plug the NBA angle in for recruiting purposes and it hasn't been the first time that his name has been mentioned in regards to the IU coaching vacancy.

Not that I expect Randy to even go in for an interview but if he did then at least the T-wolves will be looking for a new head coach.

Which is my spin on it.

Oh, I read you... Your gain is our loss, or something like that?

Bird.

For the record I really did want Samson to stay at IU, he was a great coach and it would have been an awesome rivialry tween him and Tubby as they are both good friends.

I also feel it would have raised the level of competition in the Big Ten.

Just saying.
